Home Infusion Therapy

CMS Approved – HIT Us Up!

by Lesa Merchant, VP of Pharmacy/DMEPOS Division, The Compliance Team

Effective January 1, 2021, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) mandated that Home Infusion Therapy providers be accredited by a CMS approved accrediting organization. The Compliance Team (TCT) has been accrediting infusion therapy providers for many years and was awarded CMS approval for Home Infusion Therapy in 2020.

There are a variety of business models and opportunities for providing HIT in the pharmacy world. There are three primary areas of potential compensation available via Medicare: the drug itself, the administration by a nurse, and the use of the external infusion pump. HIT providers have the option of using employee nurses or subcontracting nursing services through a home health agency.

Our HIT Quality Standards are tailored to fit the business model being evaluated. Our expert advisors provide an in-depth exploration of the quality standards that are applicable to your business model and identify those that don’t apply during the preparatory call series. Self-assessment checklists and policy templates are also included in the program to help streamline preparations.

If you’ve been considering expanding your pharmacy services with HIT, please give us a call at 215-654-9110 to talk about how we can help with accreditation.
