Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT)

Improving diabetes management – becoming a hub for diabetic care

The focus of CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) is on improving care and services to those who use the system the most, the chronically ill. Download our White Paper on Diabetes Management below.

CMS’ shift to value-based care payment models has created a billing opportunity for Medicare-approved DMEPOS providers and/or Medicare participating pharmacies.

The Compliance Team’s industry-leading Exemplary Provider® Award accreditation now includes a track for DSMT that can be bundled with our Medicare-approved programs for DMEPOS and community pharmacy, making it easier than ever for you to become a hub for diabetic care, a Medicare Diabetes Education Provider (MDEP).

Highlights of the DSMT accreditation include:

  • The MDEP must be an existing Medicare-approved Part B provider as a DMEPOS, pharmacy or clinic entity.
  • The MDEP will need to have a diabetic educator on staff or as a contractor. This can be a nutritionist/dietician, nurse or pharmacist who will perform the training.
  • A physician must certify that the patient has diabetes
  • The patient must receive a script for DSMT training.
